Petrolab is delighted to report the arrival of a ZEISS automated mineralogy system. It is a dedicated system running ZEISS ‘s Mineralogic Mining automated mineralogy engine and couples a ZEISS SEM with two Bruker EDX detectors. The system has been designed as a ruggedized mine site deployable SEM and is currently with Petrolab for evaluation and training. As part of the support package for these systems in the future Petrolab will be providing data validation and quality control services. We are very pleased to report that Petrolab is providing support to an MSc research project in applied mineralogy at Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter. Jake Harrison (pictured with Petrolab Principal Mineralogist, James Strongman) is the student undertaking the research which will look into modelling the gravity response of particles on a shaking table. Material for the project has been supplied from the new Drakeland’s Tungsten & Tin Mine near Plymouth operated by Wolf Minerals and this will be analysed using Petrolab’s new ZEISS automated mineralogy system – Mineralogic – to characterise the gravity profile and morphological characteristics of the...
